Autumn is a funny time of year for me. I normally dislike the colour palette of browns, orange and reds, but there’s something about autumn which makes me want to buy all the autumn coloured yarn available.
So here I am, devising a simple autumn wreath. I’ve got my maple leaf pattern which I designed last year. But I knew that I need a bit more, even for a little wreath.
Here is the first in several free pattern for the wreath: the beech leaf.
Materials:
Stylecraft Special DK (I used Spice and Saffron, great spicy names!)
4mm crochet hook
Abbreviations (UK terms)
Tr = treble stitch
DbTr. = double treble stitch (2 yo before starting stitch)
Picot (ch 1, slip stitch into 2 stitch from hook)
Pattern:
Chain 8.
Turn, in 2 ch from hook work tr stitch.
working along the the base chain:
DbTr in next, 2DbTr in next, 2DbTr in next, DbTr in next, Tr in next, 3Tr in last
Work Picot stitch to create the pointed tip of the leaf.
Now you are working round to the other side of the base chain.
3 Tr in same stitch, Tr in next, DbTr in next, 2DbTr in next 2DbTr in next , DbTr in next, Tr and Htr in last
Slip stitch into first stitch of the round, chain 4 and slip stitch down the chain. Slip St in into the same stitch at the base to secure the stem of the leaf.
Cheeky trick, if you carried your tail from the start underneath your stitches when making your return along the base stitch, you can tie it to the end tail under the leaf - saves time on weaving in ends!
Stay tuned for the other parts of the wreath!
